Non-CS Course Equivalents

Effective Fall 2002

  • Any cross listed course (eg, CS/ISAT-344) may be counted as a CS course and used to fulfill CS requirements even if registration for the course was under the non-CS department (eg, ISAT-344). Starting Fall 2002, CS/ISAT-348 is no longer cross listed. ISAT-348 satsifies the CS-348 requirement in the information technology concentration.
  • Math-245 may be counted as a CS-228.
  • Courses in other departments normally may NOT be substituted for required CS courses (including the CS electives). In the rare case where such a substitution may be warranted (such as for a student switching majors from CIS to CS who had previously taken one of the CIS courses listed below), the student must have the substitution approved using the university Course Substitution form either in advance of taking the alternative course or at the time the student applies to become a CS major.
  • The CS department strongly encourages its majors to take courses in other departments that complement the CS course offerings. Such non-CS courses should be taken in addition to the courses required by the CS major. However, the table below lists courses in other departments that are very similar to CS courses. Students should not take both the CS course and the similar non-CS course. To satisfy a CS graduation requirement, the CS course must be taken.
