Department Head - Computer Science Department
James Madison University (JMU) seeks applicants for the position of Department Head of Computer Science. The CS department offers an outstanding BS program, and MS programs with concentrations in Information Security (taught entirely over the Internet) and Secure Software Systems. The university is one of the original seven Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Security Education. The Department currently has 14 full-time faculty members and several affiliated faculty members and support staff. Its strengths include a dedicated, energetic, and collegial faculty, an excellent reputation for producing highly qualified graduates, strong administrative support for innovation, and excellent facilities. The Department Head is responsible for program administration and reports to the Dean of the College of Integrated Science and Technology. Candidates should demonstrate strong administrative and interpersonal skills, a collaborative management style, a distinguished history of scholarship and teaching, and a strong record of university and/or professional service. The successful candidate will be expected to further the department's educational mission, foster recruitment and support of high quality students, and promote the department both inside and outside the university. Experience working with varied business, industry, or government partners is desired. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment with a negotiated teaching component and the possibility of tenure upon initial appointment given appropriate credentials. A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is required.
